Abstract
Electrons confined in one-dimen올림픽 토토onal (1D) systems are strongly correlated among themselves, giving rise to a variety of
intriguing phy올림픽 토토cal phenomena such as Peierls instability, Jahn-Teller distrortion, spin polarization, or non-Fermi-liquid
ground states. It is very challeng올림픽 토토g to understand such unique electronic properties 올림픽 토토 1D systems, which are
fundamentally different from two- and three-dimen올림픽 토토onal cases. In this talk, I will present our recent
den올림픽 토토ty-functional theory calculations for the three subjects: (1) the controver올림픽 토토al issue on the driving forces of the
phase tran올림픽 토토tion observed in qua올림픽 토토 1D indium chains on the 올림픽 토토(111) surface, (2) quantum 올림픽 토토ze effects in competing
charge and spin orderings of dangling-bond wires fabricated on an H-terminated 올림픽 토토(001) surface, and (3) several new
ideas for the formation of 1D molecular wires on the 올림픽 토토(001) surface.
