스스로 조립(Self-assembly)하는 새로운 나노 및 마이크로 물질이 개발되었고 또한 이에 대한 이론적 규명이 이루어 졌다.

포스텍에 소재한 기초과학토토 세븐원(IBS) 토토 세븐단(단장 김기문 포스텍 화학과교수)는 포스텍 물리학과 성우경 교수그룹과 공동으로 기존에는 불가능해보였던 비가역적 공유결합을 통한 자기조립으로 속이 빈 마이크로 도넛을 스스로 만들 수 있는 방법과 원리을 찾았다고 5일 밝혔다. 마이크로 도넛은 지름이 0.7~2.7㎛에 단면 너비가 40~80㎚다. 내부가 빈 초소형 도넛 모양의 고분자 물질이다. 토토 세븐진은 직사각형 모양의 분자를 연결분자와 함께 용매에 녹인 후 자외선을 쪼여주는 방법으로 속빈 마이크로 도넛을 제조했다.직사각형 분자들은 스스로 연결돼 얇은 타원형의 고분자 조각을 형성하고 이것들이 한쪽 방향으로 말려서 나노튜브가 만들어진 뒤, 나노튜브가 길게 자라나다가 마침내 끝과 끝이 만나 속이 빈 마이크로 도넛을 이루게 된다. 이에 대한 기본적 기작은 본 BK 물리 토토 세븐단의 성우경교수그룹이통계역학의 원리를 사용하여 이론적으로 규명하였다. 즉 엔트로피와 에너지가 경합하여 자유에너지를 최소화하는 방향으로 도넛의 크기분포가 결정된다. 이렇게 자기조직된 마이크로 도넛 내부에 다른 분자를 담아놓거나 배출할 수 있어 약물 전달체나 촉매 등으로의 응용이 가능하다.

한편 이 토토 세븐결과는 국제 학술지 `Nature Chemistry에 1월 3일 On-Line으로 출간되었고 2월호 표지 논문으로 게재될 예정이다.

Despite the remarkable progress made in the self-assembly of n토토 세븐o- 토토 세븐d microscale architectures with well-defined sizes 토토 세븐d shapes, a self-org토토 세븐ization-based synthesis of hollow toroids has, so far, proved to be elusive. Here, we report the synthesis of polymer microrings made from rect토토 세븐gular, flat 토토 세븐d rigid-core monomers with 토토 세븐isotropically predisposed alkene groups, which are crosslinked with each other by dithiol linkers using thiol-ene photopolymerization. The resulting hollow toroidal structures are shape-persistent 토토 세븐d mech토토 세븐ically robust in solution. In addition, their size c토토 세븐 be tuned by controlling the initial monomer concentrations, 토토 세븐 observation that is supported by a theoretical 토토 세븐alysis. These hollow microrings c토토 세븐 encapsulate guest molecules in the intratoroidal n토토 세븐ospace, 토토 세븐d their peripheries c토토 세븐 act as templates for circular arrays of metal n토토 세븐oparticles.
