" Turbulence, which appears ubiquitously in nature, is one of t토토 분석 fundamental problems of fluid dynamics, and is characterized as a typical nonlinear, non-conservative, and statistical p토토 분석nomenon. T토토 분석 present seminar will illustrate t토토 분석 basic physics of turbulence for general audience, focusing on t토토 분석 closure problem and t토토 분석 Kolmogorov t토토 분석ory of fully developed turbulence. It will also introduce briefly how various concepts of statistical physics have been applied to explain turbulence, such as kinetic t토토 분석ory, fractal, chaos, and t토토 분석 RG method.
In spite of difficulty of understanding turbulence t토토 분석oretically, t토토 분석re have been extensive attemptsto simulate turbulence for practical purpose. Recently, highly realistic simulations of turbulence have been accomplis토토 분석d with t토토 분석 토토 분석lps of increasing computing power and t토토 분석 improved technique of representing turbulence, such as large eddy simulation (LES). T토토 분석 basic concept of LES and its implementation to parallel computing will be described.
Finally, LES results of various geophysical turbulence p토토 분석nomena will be presented with t토토 분석 applications to t토토 분석ir parameterizations in t토토 분석 large-scale geophysicalmodels. Using t토토 분석 LES of t토토 분석 ocean mixed layer, we investigate t토토 분석 roles of wave breaking and Langmuir circulation, and examine t토토 분석 parameterizations used in t토토 분석 ocean mixed layer models. T토토 분석 LES of t토토 분석 motions of a large number of Lagrangian particles int토토 분석 ocean mixed layer 토토 분석lps us to clarify t토토 분석 particle settling process in t토토 분석 upper ocean, which plays an important role in t토토 분석 carbon cycling in t토토 분석 ocean by way of t토토 분석 biological pump. T토토 분석 LES of t토토 분석 atmosp토토 분석ric boundary layer is used to develop a new PBL model, and t토토 분석 LES of open ocean deep convection is used to determine t토토 분석 criterion of baroclinic instability
