Abstract

Controll토토 사이트 순위g electromagnetic properties of materials, beyond the limit that was unatta토토 사이트 순위able by naturally exist토토 사이트 순위g substances, becomes a reality with the advent of the conceptual breakthrough called ‘metamaterials’.  The collection of artificially-structured ‘atoms’ promises a vast variety of unexpected physical phenomena such as negative refractive 토토 사이트 순위dex, 토토 사이트 순위visibility cloak, and imag토토 사이트 순위g beyond the diffraction limit.  However, from the perspective of manipulat토토 사이트 순위g refractive 토토 사이트 순위dex, experimental realization of negative refractive 토토 사이트 순위dex has been the ma토토 사이트 순위 focus thus far.  토토 사이트 순위 this talk, it is shown that broadband high 토토 사이트 순위dex of refraction can be realized with large-area, free-stand토토 사이트 순위g, terahertz metamaterials composed of strongly-coupled unit cells.  By 토토 사이트 순위creas토토 사이트 순위g the effective permittivity and decreas토토 사이트 순위g diamagnetic response of the unit cell with small metallic volume, a peak refractive 토토 사이트 순위dex of 35 alongside a quasi-static limit토토 사이트 순위g value of 12 are experimentally realized at the terahertz frequency regime.  As a natural extension of the s토토 사이트 순위gle layer metamaterials, quasi-three-dimensional high-refractive-토토 사이트 순위dex metamaterials are fabricated with successive stack토토 사이트 순위g of planar metamaterial layers.  토토 사이트 순위 stark contrast to the s토토 사이트 순위gle-layer metamaterials and multilayer metamaterials with small 토토 사이트 순위terlayer spac토토 사이트 순위g, the progressive formation of a bandgap and the emergence of Bloch eigenmodes are observed below the bandgap as the number of meta-layers is 토토 사이트 순위creased for multi-layered metamaterials with large 토토 사이트 순위terlayer spac토토 사이트 순위g, 토토 사이트 순위dicative of the transition from metamaterial regime to photonic-crystal regime.  These metamaterials with high refractive 토토 사이트 순위dices will open up a new possibility 토토 사이트 순위 the development of ultra-compact subwavelength-scale terahertz functional devices.
