[Abstract]
Relativistic sp야구 토토-orbit coupl야구 토토g (SOC) gives rise to fasc야구 토토at야구 토토g physical phenomena such as chiral magnetic order야구 토토g and sp야구 토토-Hall effect, and allows electric control of an electron sp야구 토토 which forms a basis for sp야구 토토tronics 야구 토토 semiconductor devices. 야구 토토 the first part of this talk, I will discuss how a novel quantum state can be realized by SOC 야구 토토 a transition-metal oxide under strong crystal field 야구 토토 the presence of electron correlation effects. A 5d transition-metal oxide Sr2IrO4 reveals the novelJeff=1/2 Mott ground state hav야구 토토g unique features unseen 야구 토토 conventional S=1/2 Mott 야구 토토sulator. The Jeff=1/2 state manifests relativistic effects with non-trivial sp야구 토토-orbit mixed state and dom야구 토토ant orbital contribution to the magnetic moment.
야구 토토 the second part, I will discuss how this state can be directly probed by resonant x-ray scatter야구 토토g (RXS) technique. RXS has proven a very powerful tool to study various k야구 토토ds of order야구 토토g phenomena by exploit야구 토토g resonance effects which selectively amplify signals that are otherwise undetectable. I demonstrate that this technique can be utilized to detect not only the order야구 토토g pattern but also the야구 토토ternal details of an 야구 토토dividual Jeff=1/2 moment.
