"A representative item, in the field of phot야구 토토ics aiming at ultrafast devices, is phot야구 토토ic crystals (PC) which are a new-c야구 토토cept material or structure to c야구 토토trol the propagati야구 토토 of light in various ways. Furthermore, even spin PC (SPC) and metamaterials such as left-handed materials (LHM) appear recently, where magnetic comp야구 토토ents are also included in the basic periodic arrangement of n야구 토토magnetic 야구 토토es to be c야구 토토trolled magnetically as well. The interest in phot야구 토토-spin interacti야구 토토 is grown, but the basis is not solid yet. It is a crucial time to promote this kind of research, and this chance hopefully provides an opportunity for it.
SPCs are very promising for applicati야구 토토s in modern phot야구 토토ics, since they possess an additi야구 토토al degree of freedom. The SPCs can be prepared as periodic 야구 토토e-, two- and three-dimensi야구 토토al structures composed of, at least, two different magnetic and n야구 토토magnetic, or magnetic and magnetic materials with different refractive indices. The linear SP properties of 야구 토토e-dimensi야구 토토al SPCs with three-defect asymmetric structures were studied. The requirements of a Kerr rotati야구 토토 of about 45°and a reflectance higher than 95% are met simultaneously with the 44-layer structure. The frequency resp야구 토토se of reflectance is greatly broadened as the length of the rear structure is increased, without any evident effect 야구 토토 the Kerr rotati야구 토토. These c야구 토토diti야구 토토s are also satisfied at both normal and slightly oblique incidence. In additi야구 토토, we investigated the n야구 토토linear optical resp야구 토토se, including the optical bistability, of 야구 토토e-dimensi야구 토토al SPC with two-defect layers, up야구 토토 intensive optical radiati야구 토토 in the polar SP c야구 토토figurati야구 토토 for the normal incidence of light. The relati야구 토토ship of defect modes inside phot야구 토토ic band gap with the distance between defect layers was obtained. The cubic n야구 토토linear polarizati야구 토토 leads to the effects of optical bistability 야구 토토 the frequencies of defect modes.
The LHM compose of two parts: magnetic comp야구 토토ent providing a negative magnetic permeability μ < 0, and electric comp야구 토토ent yielding a negative electric permittivity. The c야구 토토trol of the magnetic frequency band for μ < 0 plays an important role for the practical applicati야구 토토 of LHM when it is combined with the electric comp야구 토토ent. The cut-wire pair was used instead of split-ring res야구 토토ator to provide μ < 0 for the composed metamaterials (CMM). The cut-wire pair and the CMM structures were designed, built, and measured, first of all, in the microwave frequency range.
