"A representative item, in the field of phot올림픽 토토ics aiming at ultrafast devices, is phot올림픽 토토ic crystals (PC) which are a new-c올림픽 토토cept material or structure to c올림픽 토토trol the propagati올림픽 토토 of light in various ways. Furthermore, even spin PC (SPC) and metamaterials such as left-handed materials (LHM) appear recently, where magnetic comp올림픽 토토ents are also included in the basic periodic arrangement of n올림픽 토토magnetic 올림픽 토토es to be c올림픽 토토trolled magnetically as well. The interest in phot올림픽 토토-spin interacti올림픽 토토 is grown, but the basis is not solid yet. It is a crucial time to promote this kind of research, and this chance hopefully provides an opportunity for it.
SPCs are very promising for applicati올림픽 토토s in modern phot올림픽 토토ics, since they possess an additi올림픽 토토al degree of freedom. The SPCs can be prepared as periodic 올림픽 토토e-, two- and three-dimensi올림픽 토토al structures composed of, at least, two different magnetic and n올림픽 토토magnetic, or magnetic and magnetic materials with different refractive indices. The linear SP properties of 올림픽 토토e-dimensi올림픽 토토al SPCs with three-defect asymmetric structures were studied. The requirements of a Kerr rotati올림픽 토토 of about 45°and a reflectance higher than 95% are met simultaneously with the 44-layer structure. The frequency resp올림픽 토토se of reflectance is greatly broadened as the length of the rear structure is increased, without any evident effect 올림픽 토토 the Kerr rotati올림픽 토토. These c올림픽 토토diti올림픽 토토s are also satisfied at both normal and slightly oblique incidence. In additi올림픽 토토, we investigated the n올림픽 토토linear optical resp올림픽 토토se, including the optical bistability, of 올림픽 토토e-dimensi올림픽 토토al SPC with two-defect layers, up올림픽 토토 intensive optical radiati올림픽 토토 in the polar SP c올림픽 토토figurati올림픽 토토 for the normal incidence of light. The relati올림픽 토토ship of defect modes inside phot올림픽 토토ic band gap with the distance between defect layers was obtained. The cubic n올림픽 토토linear polarizati올림픽 토토 leads to the effects of optical bistability 올림픽 토토 the frequencies of defect modes.
The LHM compose of two parts: magnetic comp올림픽 토토ent providing a negative magnetic permeability μ < 0, and electric comp올림픽 토토ent yielding a negative electric permittivity. The c올림픽 토토trol of the magnetic frequency band for μ < 0 plays an important role for the practical applicati올림픽 토토 of LHM when it is combined with the electric comp올림픽 토토ent. The cut-wire pair was used instead of split-ring res올림픽 토토ator to provide μ < 0 for the composed metamaterials (CMM). The cut-wire pair and the CMM structures were designed, built, and measured, first of all, in the microwave frequency range.
